Grizzly Bear Grazing in Montana Meadow
A grizzly foraging in Montana. Grizzlies often dig for roots in this meadow, especially in that particular spot, but this individual was just grazing.
The meadow is rich with wildflowers, including some with roots that grizzlies love, such as 2 species biscuitroot (in the carrot family), sweetvetch and wild onions. Grizzlies apparently eat all those roots, but we find their digging sign mostly where there is a lot of biscuitroot.
I'm not sure what this bear was focusing on for above ground greenery, but there is a lot of biscuitroot in that spot. I'm surprised he's not digging.
We placed the camera there precisely because we noticed an abundance of grizzly sign - tracks, scats, and digging.
