Marmot Courtship
Sound up to hear chirps and squeals.
Marmot courtship....at least I think so, because we got these interactions only during the breeding season. Throughout the rest of last summer we got many marmot captures at these rocks but almost all were of single animals.
This is the yellow bellied marmot, Marmota flaviventris, commonly called the rock chuck. (close relative of the wood chuck, Marmota monax)
How did we know which rock to target? We looked for marmot scat, which accumulates on their favorite resting rocks.
