Today, in our sports encyclopedia series we will talk about how to play Racing Kings Chess.
The rules of this game are similar to normal chess except for a few modifications.
The basic objective of this game is for one of the two players to be the first one to get their King to the opposite side of the game board.
This Chess game begins by laying out an 8 by 10 game board on a flat surface.
The pieces are arranged in a unique way in this game as both the white and the black pieces are placed on the same side.
In the first row, from left to right are the black King, Rook, Bishop, Knight then the white Knight, Bishop, Rook, and, King.
The second row has the same arrangement but the Kings are replaced by the Queens.
The white side takes the first turn, and then the turns are taken alternatively.
The players must move one piece when their turn comes.
All the pieces have the same moves as they do in regular chess, the only difference is that the Kings can never be in check.
The players are not allowed to move their pieces or capture the opponent’s pieces in such a way that the opponent’s King comes under check.
The Kings are also not allowed to make such a move that brings them under check, thus, kings may not advance towards the other side if there is a space under threat.
The first player who manages to get their King to the 8th row wins.
To eliminate any unfairness due to the white side getting the first turn, the game results in a draw if the Black is able to get their King to the 8th row right after the White does.
