Friends, today in our sports encyclopedia series we will talk about Clay pigeon shooting.
Clay pigeon shooting, also known as clay target shooting, is a shooting sport in which the shooters try to shoot flying targets like clay pigeons or clay targets, using a shotgun.
The objective of the game is to shoot as many targets as possible.
Clay Pigeon shooting is an individual sport where shooters compete against each other.
Either inverted saucer shaped or fluorescent orange or black targets are used for the clay pigeon shooting.
The traps used in clay pigeon shooting are designed to fling the targets at varying angles and speeds.
The traps can be hand loaded and released devices to fully mechanized traps.
Clay Pigeon shooting has a lot of different disciplines but most of them come under three headings, Trap Shootings, Skeet Shooting, and Sporting Clays.
In Trap Shooting, targets are thrown as singles or doubles from one or more traps situated 15 m in front of the shooter.
These traps are in continuous motion, generally going away from the firing point at varying speeds, angles, and elevations.
In Skeet Shooting, targets are thrown in singles and doubles from two trap houses situated 40 meters apart.
These trap houses are positioned at the opposite ends of a semicircular arc on which there are seven shooting positions.
There is a set trajectory and speed for each target thrown.
In sporting clays, unlike other disciplines, the targets are thrown in different angles, speeds, elevations, and distances.
This discipline is supposed to simulate live quarry shooting.
At the end of the round, the shooter with the most points wins.
