Today, in our sports encyclopedia series we will talk about the fortball.
Fortball is an amalgamation of fort building and dodgeball.
The basic objective of the game for each team is to be the last one standing.
The game of fortball takes place between two teams of six players each.
The game takes place on a small court that is square in shape, measuring 50 feet by 50 feet.
There are chalk lines in the court splitting it diagonally instead of horizontally or vertically.
In the court, there are three piles of fort building materials with the first one being in the center which is called the start pile.
The start pile is the biggest pile of materials and is used at the opening rush.
The other two piles are placed at the corners and are used one for each team, as backup materials.
The players are allowed to knock down the forts but the teams can repair or upgrade the forts at any time during the game.
In order to rebuild their fort, the teams must run out of the safety of their fort to the spare materials pile.
The game is basically played using three dodgeballs and before the game, there is a rock paper scissors match to decide who has 2 balls and who has 1.
The game begins with the opening rush in which teams fight for fort materials.
After the opening rush players are allowed to run around and take cover within their fort to avoid getting hit by the ball.
The target in this stage is to knock down the fort and hit the opponent players with the dodge ball.
Every player in the team has three lives after which they must walk out of the game.
If a player catches the opponent’s throw, either life is added or it can be used to bring back a dead person with one life.
The team that has its player standing till the end is declared as the winner.
