Today, in our sports encyclopedia series we will talk about Caid Irish Football Game.
Caid is an ancient traditional Irish Football game that is used by Irish people to refer to modern Gaelic Football.
It is believed that the game Caid laid the foundation for the rules of modern Gaelic Football and some sources explain that the Irish Diaspora introduced Caid to various places around the world.
The game Australian Rules football is also said to have been inspired by Caid.
The game is now extinct and is not played in any part of the world anymore.
The basic objective of the game was to score more goals than the opponent.
Most of the time, Caid was played with a huge number of players.
The name Caid comes from the name of the ball that was used in the game.
The caid was made of animal skin with a natural bladder inside.
There were two variants of Caid that were defined by the founder of the game Father W. Ferris, the field game and the cross country game.
The basic objective for each team in the field game was to put the ball through arch-like goals.
These goals were present on either side of the field and were made out of boughs of trees.
The basic objective for each team in the cross country game was to get the ball across the parish boundary.
The cross country game was specifically played in the daylight hours of a Sunday.
The first team that manages to score the maximum number of goals was declared as the winner.
