Here are the two major areas that may permanently bar you from getting a green card.
1️⃣ Marriage Fraud - The typical fact pattern in marriage fraud cases is that a U.S. citizen and an alien get married. They fulfill all state law requirements such as medical tests, licensing, and a ceremony. But the U.S. citizen is paid to marry the alien in order to entitle the alien to obtain status as a permanent resident of the United States; the parties do not intend to live together as man and wife.
2️⃣ Adam Walsh Act - A U.S. citizen or permanent resident who is convicted of a “specified offense against a minor” may be prevented from filing a visa petition on behalf of a close family member. If the petitioner is a permanent resident rather than a citizen, the person will be referred to removal proceedings to see if he or she is deportable.
