Get your free "I Just Need a Quickie" full body workout cheat sheet here: https://mailchi.mp/e1fa65f3e9aa/quickie

In the kip up, you lie on your back and generate force with your lower body (along with some help from your hands) to explode up and land on your feet. It is used in activities such as breakdancing, gymnastics, martial arts, wrestling, parkour, and in action film fight sequences. Plus, it just looks cool. And when you get, you will feel like a freaken ninja!

Disclaimer: You will need adequate mobility in the spine, wrists, ankles, and hips; healthy joints, and core strength to accomplish this, plus a well-padded surface to practice on. Watch the full video as I show you a quick demo on wrist stretches and a drill to increase spinal mobility towards the end. To increase mobility and core strength, watch my Animal Flow part 1 video here:    • Animal Flow for Beginners Part 1: Begin to...

Step 1: Lay on the ground. Place your palms on the ground close to your ears and practice pushing yourself to a seated position. Get comfortable with the positioning of your wrists and the force needed to push yourself up.

Step 2: Now begin pushing your legs upward with explosive power. This will strengthen your core and get your hips ready for the explosiveness needed to do the kip up.

Step 3: From a seated position, roll onto your back and using your hands, push yourself up into a standing position. Get comfortable getting from a laying to standing position. This is the end goal in a kip up.

Step 4: Now put it all together. The key is to kick your legs UP and OUT as hard as you can and push off with your hands a split second later.

Timing is crucial to landing this move and it takes a lot of trial and error. Practice on a soft surface and don’t give up! It will take time. You will fail. We all fail and that’s ok. Laugh it off, take adequate breaks, and try again.

Let me know how you did in the comments. What did you learn? What did you struggle with most? Did you get it?? Keep trying and let me know when you get it so I can congratulate you!
