Steps
First import a picture of a Polaroid. Then hit G on the keyboard to make out the area surrounding your picture. Then mask out the middle of the photo you may have to change the mask type to subtract. Create a new black solid and place that under the polaroid and mask out again the area where the photo should go, then hit F to bring up feather properties, this will act as our drop shadow from the frame unto the picture. They import the picture you like to put within the frame and mask out the edges so it fits. Create a new composition and place the previous composition inside. Check the 3D box. Go inside that composition and duplicate the polaroid and drag that one below all the other layers. Make all layers 3D by checking the box. You can add either a curves effect or a levels effect and make this one a bit darker. Then hit P to bring up position properties, right click on position and go to separate dimension. Then Alt+Click on the Z position and put in the expression index and hit enter. Then duplicate that layer a few times until you have about 15-20 layers total. Go back out to your other composition and check the collapse transformations box and now the polaroid should have some extrusion to it. Feel free to keyframe the position and rotation properties as you’d like.
Tricks/Tips
Once you have masked out both the area around the Polaroid and the area inside the Polaroid you can go up to composition, save frame as, and make sure the RGB + Alpha option is checked and change it to a PNG sequence. This will allow you to create this effect in the future without having to re-mask all those out.
