Steps
Place a picture of a phone onto your composition as a guide. Create a rounded rectangle for the base layer of the phone. Duplicate that layer and change it to a white fill. Create a black rectangle for the phone screen. Then use the shape tool to create the camera, speaker, home button etc. Then precompose those layers. Pre compose the screen layer. Drag in you file you’d like to see on the phone. Put it below the screen layer. Pre compose all the layers you’d like to be sen on the screen. Click on the screen layer and go layer auto-trace. Disable to auto-traced layer. Hit M to put up the masks copy the outside mask and paste it onto the screen composition. Click the 3D box on all the layers. Go down to geometry option on the base layer and extrude it. Right click and go new light. Pull the Z position back on the light to see all of the layers. Then right click, go new, and null object. Select all the layer and use to pick-wip tool to parent them to the null. Create a rounded rectangle, click the 3D box, extrude it and add a bevel. Duplicate it twice and move these to be where the volume up, volume down, and power button would be, parent these to the null layer as well. Feel free to keyframe the rotation or position of the null to control the phone’s movement.
Tricks/Tips:
Hold shift while drawing shapes will make them equal on all sides.
Hold the command key and double click on the pan behind tool to center the anchor point.
You can always lock a composition in the composition window and open another composition and drag it over to see both of them.
