It's...done. I have finally, finally finished the largest project of my career so far. This giant mix--three whole years replete with examples of my orchestration, electronic production, poetry, storytelling, rapping, singing, songwriting, video editing, and even 3D animation (yes, this video has 3D animation never before seen on this channel!)--is complete. After over 200 hours of rendering and even a devastating loss of data from which I had to recover, I present to you the culmination of years of work and dedication to my music: "The Sea." Continuing the story of the Beast, this final part explores his fall back to Earth, fighting with the World and attempting to re-earn his place above the tumultuous sea, suffering his enemy's retribution, and finally achieving forgiveness and salvation.
From the very beginning of this project, I wanted "The Sea" to be midtempo bass. Inspired by the likes of Lucille Croft, 1788-L, Inzo, and Rezz, I had just as much love for the genre as the briddim and melodic dubstep of the first two parts. Writing the lyrics seemingly came naturally to me, and while I still had trouble mixing in the cleaner vocals in many sections of the song, my nascent implementation of screamo/vocal fries definitely excelled here, I think!
I could not have done all this without the endless support of my fiancée Samalou (who again lent her voice for the Beast), fellow producers xtratrstrial and NXIII, my best friend Steven, and my family and friends. I can honestly say that I have come so far in what I have done here...and I am so, so happy and grateful to show what I can accomplish to the world. Thank you for joining me on this journey.
Of the Soil, Sky, and Sea is the thirty-first album in my repertoire, the fifth in Phase VI, and the first of the Vocal Music series. A concept album like 7: Vices and Virtues, it features one album-long suite of music. However, unlike its preceding likenesses, this suite is actually a mix of electronic music with original lyrics and vocals, formatted as if performed by a disc jockey. The determination about whether the eponymous mix would be appended to Shift (the project E.M. album at the time) or reserved for the faraway album 42 (as albums 36 and 39 were already planned) made placement for the mix difficult. So, with the advice of my peers, both options were rejected and the suite was placed in the only available spot, album 31, therefore kickstarting the Vocal Music series as that which may only occur on prime numbers (like how E.M. albums are multiples of 3). The suite itself contains three distinct parts, each with its respective theme (the soil, sky, and sea) and electronic music genre or group of subgenres to illustrate it. It also contains my first featured artist, Samalou, the stage name of my partner. The first instance of my lyrical composition and vocals makes an appearance here, detailing the story of “the Beast”—a metaphorical representation of humanity—overtaking the Soil (Earth), spreading into the Sky (space), and growing so mighty that his hubris causes him to metaphorically fall into the fearsome and unknown Sea. It is another of my favorite albums because it marries the multiple arts I have attempted throughout my life: poetry, storytelling, songwriting, and classical and electronic music composition—not to mention the album artwork itself: depicting the Beast’s fall into the Sea, passing through a band of nebulas and falling away from an upside-down image of a grassy pasture.
