Here it is. This is it. My first mix. Inspired by such works as "Fuccboi Burial" by Vulgatron, I wanted to make a long playlist of original electronic music in a genre which I actually enjoy: riddim dubstep. However, unlike actual mixes made of premade music, everything in this piece was made from scratch. I built this mix from the ground up, and I am proud of the result! It features an example of my poetry (in both spoken word and raps--yes, you will actually hear my voice!), a genre for which I have never before written, a lengthy video, and a hopefully enjoyable visualizer to boot! I give thanks to those peers who helped and encouraged me to continue. And I'm not done yet. This is merely part one! As the name of this eleventh suite suggests, I plan to compose two more parts succeeding this one, each with a different but still compatible genre as its focus. But for now, I hope you enjoy "The Soil" and the beast which treads upon it. #HappyHalloween !
Of the Soil, Sky, and Sea is the thirty-first album in my repertoire, the fifth in Phase VI, and the first of the Vocal Music series. A suite album like 7: Vices and Virtues, it features one album-long suite of music. However, unlike its preceding likenesses, the suite is actually a mix of electronic music with original lyrics and vocals, formatted as if performed by a disc jockey. The determination about whether the eponymous mix would be appended to Shift (the project E.M. album at the time) or reserved for the faraway album 42 (as albums 36 and 39 were already planned) made placement for the mix difficult. So, with the advice of my peers, both options were rejected and the suite was placed in the only available spot, album 31, therefore kickstarting the Vocal Music series as that which can only occur on prime numbers (like how E.M. albums are multiples of 3). The suite itself contains three distinct parts, each with its respective theme (the soil, sky, and sea) and electronic music genre or group of genres to illustrate it. It also contains my first featured artist, Alou, the stage name of my then-girlfriend. The first instance of my lyrical composition and vocals makes an appearance here, detailing the story of “the Beast”—a metaphorical representation of humanity—overtaking the Soil (Earth), spreading into the Sky (space), and growing so mighty that his hubris causes him to fall, like Icarus, into the fearsome and unknown Sea. It is another of my favorite albums because it marries the multiple arts I have attempted throughout my life: poetry, storytelling, songwriting, and classical and electronic music composition—not to mention the album artwork itself. Speaking of which, the artwork depicts the Beast’s fall into the Sea, passing through a band of nebulas and falling away from an upside-down image of a grassy pasture. The title—with the O in “SOIL” functioning as the Theihs clock—lays on top of the image but behind the Beast in large, cursive letters.
