Rockstar recently took over the reigns for the video game series which perfected slow motion gunplay, and one of my favorite game series of all time. Now although I took a lot of issue with the new direction, there was a lot I liked about Max Payne 3 and that included the basic premise which would work fantastic in a gritty crime drama.
Max, once a veteran cop in New York, leaves his old haunts when one too many gangsters catch wise to his systematic mass-scale murder of hundreds of their foot-soldiers. An old friend from police academy suggests he take on the high paying position of a body guard for a South American wealthy family and for a time Max is content to use his paycheck on booze to banish the memories of his dead loved ones. However when a local terrorist organization kidnaps the daughter of his employer the old but no less skillful ex-cop goes to war once again.
It's a story with lots of potential for stand-alone action and emotional weight. Max I still think is one of the few heroes or even anti-heroes in fiction who has actually aged and he's all the more interesting for it.
