This is usually an effect you add to digital video in the edit to make it seem like you've shot on film. Film grain is a light-sensitive material that exists in a film’s emulsion or coating which is one of the things that make it look like film and not video. Adding artificial film grain to digital footage is what lots of people do to make their footage look expensive, along with black bars on the top and bottom - and you know what - it works."
