A lens is the tube like thing you may have seen on the end of cameras with glass at either end. Ultimately this is the bit of kit that will have the most effect on the quality of your image as its what all the light passes through. Costs can vary from ten quid up to tens of thousands depending on what it can do, or how old it is. The rule here is trust your eyes,if the lens makes your image look like you want, then that's the best lens ever.
