A script supervisor isn't someone who just stares at the script all day, well actually they kind of do! But not just to check that the actors are sticking to the script and not improvising to get that Oscar. They also check the continuity of every scene. So, wardrob, props, set, hair, makeup, all of that! They have a lot to do so whenever you see a coffee cup in shot, or an actor's hat suddenly changes colour, then yes they may have missed it but can you blame them!? Bet it's the actors' fault.
