FIGHT LOGIC: When competing or sparring it’s very important that you remember how your opponent reacts to things. This is so you’re able to land effectively with your strikes.
Take blocking a kick for instance. If I throw a left body kick and my opponent blocks with their leg...take note. Continue to fight/spar, throw another to see if they react the same way. If they do then they’re probably very good at defending that technique in that fashion, so no matter how hard or how fast you kick, 9 time’s out of 10 they’ll probably defend it. This will become very painful for you if you continue to kick their block....so we have to get passed it.
In this video I show of one way of how to get passed their block in order to land your own kick.
COMBO BREAKDOWN:
Switch cross
Southpaw right hook
Southpaw left body kick
The switch is to get them to defend the kick. After this you want to fire the left hand down the middle knocking them off balance. You can either fire the kick straight from there or like on this video you add an extra punch before the kick.
If you watch the fight footage you can see opponent lift his left as he was going to cross block against the kick. The punches knock him back forcing him to put his leg down to keep his balance....this then enables me to land the body kick.
