As I’m still getting so many comments about nit swinging the arm when you kick. I thought I’d try and show the difference between the arm swing (or straight out) and the hands glued to your head when you kick.
The first thing you’ll probably notice, is how wide open you actually are when you try and keep both hands up while kicking. (Some people seem be under the impression it will protect you more).
Keeping both hands up by your head prevents you from turning your shoulders in. This makes makes your upper body a very big target and easy to hit.

It’s not as easy as you’d think to land a ko shot on someone who’s set the kick up, timed the kick and is executing it at full force. 😉
Now, if you want to kick with your hands high by your head and it works for you, then cool. Just remember, every technique has a basic set of rules that must be followed. Once you’ve mastered those rules, then you can start adapting the techniques to fit the situation at hand.
