Colin Bass (Velvet Opera, The Foundations, Clancy, Camel) Interview (7/14/24)
Colin Bass is an English musician, singer, songwriter and record producer. In the early part of his career he played in bands like Velvet Opera, The Foundations and Clancy. Since 1979 he has been a member of British prog rock band Camel. From 1984 to 1992 he was a member of World Music group 3 Mustaphas 3. Colin has 2 solo albums as Colin Bass and 3 albums under the moniker Sabah Habas Mustapha. “Denpasar Moon”, the title track from the first album, was very popular in Indonesia during the 90’s and has been covered many times by many Asian artists. Mr. Bass has produced a wide range of international artists including the Klezmatics and Daniel Kahn & the Painted Bird, both from the US, Indonesia’s SambaSunda, Etran Finatawa from Niger and 9Bach from Wales. He has played on a number of internationally acclaimed artists recordings like Malian singer Oumou Sangare.
