Tom Doody is an American singer who is one of the founding members of pop/psych group The Cryan’ Shames, spelled “Cryan”, not to be confused by the Liverpool, UK band, The Cryin’ Shames, spelled “Cryin”. Several of the members had nicknames, Tom’s being “Toad” – and we’ll find out about the origin of that moniker later. The band was formed in Hinsdale, Illinois in 1966. From 1966 through 1969, the band would release 3 albums and 10 singles. There would also be a few compilations over the subsequent years. 1969 was not the end for The Cryan’ Shames as there would be reunion concerts to come. Just last year in 2023 the Illinois Rock and Roll Museum inducted the band into its Hall of Fame. And today Tom is still performing live occasional, he and Jim “J.C. Hooke” Pilster being the only remaining original members.
