Lipids are a type of biomolecule comprised of a positively charged head with hydrocarbon chain tails (usually 1-2 tails). Due to their cationic heads and hydrophobic tails, lipids are well known for their ability to form micelles, liposomes, and the bilayer sheets that comprise our membranes. Their physical properties also make lipids ideal for transporting negatively charged cargo such as nucleic acids.
