Gastric cancer has remained difficult to treat and is ranked third among global cancer-related deaths. Lack of early symptoms often leads to late-stage diagnosis. Recently, the International Journal of Oncology published a 2015 paper which reported that histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibition leads to the suppression of gastric adenocarcinoma cell growth. In this study, siRNA transfection was a staple research method that was utilized. The AGS cell line (gastric adenocarcinoma) has been used extensively in the preclinical research of stomach cancer. The AGS line was first established from stomach tissue of an aged 54 Caucasian female patient in 1979. It was reported that the patient received no prior therapy. AGS cells exhibit an epithelial morphology; AGS cells are also tumorigenic. AGS cells can be utilized in stomach cancer research.
