Z offset adjusts the height of your nozzle relative to the print bed, and it's one of the tools available to help you print that perfect first layer.

Most slicers have a setting like this, and some printers allow you to baby step the Z axis mid-print to achieve the same result. In Cura, you will need to install the "Z Offset Setting" plugin from the marketplace as shown. (If the setting isn't showing up after installing, try restarting Cura and check your settings visibility filters).

A negative value moves the nozzle closer to the print bed to "squish" your layers more, while a positive value moves further away.
