This custom laser cut stencil, made from 20 ga. brushed 304 stainless steel, which is safe and easy to clean with mineral spirits or paint thinner.
The adhesive spray helps to fill in gaps between the stencil and base material to prevent bleed through. Let it sit for a few minutes after applying until it gets tacky to make it easier to remove. This will leave some residue, but it can be easily removed with WD-40. A good paint like Farm & Implement will hold up well to the WD-40 once fully hardened.
Keep the spray light and direct, and use multiple coats. This might also work with brush-on paints with the right technique, but I have not tried it yet.
