Type II anodizing (AKA sulfuric anodizing) is an electrochemical process that forms a protective oxide coating on bare aluminum. A thin layer of aluminum oxide forms naturally on all aluminum, but anodizing speeds up the process and makes the layer thicker and stronger for added durability and corrosion resistance.
⚠️☠️ DISCLAIMER:
These chemicals, sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide, are no joke! Both will burn your skin on contact, or do much worse if inhaled or ingested. Don't try any of this at home without first educating yourself on the risks and taking appropriate safety precautions.
