Cyclone Kenneth near Grande Comore - 8pm EAT April 24, 2019
Cyclone Kenneth is likely pounding the main island of the Comoros this evening with hurricane force winds and torrential rainfall. The storm is moving rather quickly, and the worst of the storm's effects will probably not last long over the island chain. The storm will then move onto Mozambique tomorrow, with further intensification possible before then.
Along with the intensity, a huge rainfall threat remains in northernmost Mozambique, where 600mm of rain could fall over the next few days during and after the storm's landfall. This comes after last month's disaster in the same region from Cyclone Idai.
Kenneth is likely to weaken substantially after landfall, and dissolve into a remnant low this weekend.
