Cyclone Chido peaked as a strong Category 4 storm yesterday and battered the island of Agaléga, and is now marauding through the northern tip of Madagascar and is likely to strike Mayotte early tomorrow. Chido is expected to retain most of its strength as it moves in a steady direction towards a landfall in northern Mozambique on Saturday night. Winds of 100mph or greater are expected in Mayotte, some of the Comoros islands, and the coast of Mozambique possibly including the city of Pemba.
Meanwhile, rainfall accumulations are expected to reach 10 inches or more (250mm) near the center of the storm, and elevated rainfall will ensue across most of Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe from Chido's remnants early next week.
