Beyond the wall, men live among the harsh weather and dangers of the North. These people call themselves the Free Folk and to those South of the Wall they are known as Wildlings.
The Free Folk are divided into tribes, clans and villages with varying cultures and allegiances. In spite of their differences they mostly view themselves different from Southerners across the Wall.
They consider themselves Free Folk because they do not have the same rules and obligations as the Southerners, they do not kneel to a King are are free to align with anyone of their choosing. This stems from their religion, where they believe the lands were made for all men to share. Above all the Free Folk believe that a man keeping their word is most important.
With this freedom, a great deal of conflict divides the separate clans, a lot of the Free tribes have spent centuries warring against each other.
The Night's Watch, tasked with defending the Wall, have become one of the worst common enemies among the divided Free Folk. This hatred, coupled with the rising fear of a great Winter has forced the tribes to temporarily put aside their differences and go against their beliefs, uniting as one under a King Beyond The Wall.
