Among the swamps of the Neck live a group of small men known as Crannogmen. They live in primitive villages and tend to keep to themselves leading simple lives without riches surviving by hunting frogs and fishing.
This peculiar race is lead by the Noble House Reed and its lord Howland who are reside in a castle located in the Greywater. This castle is soaked with great history, the other Lords among the crannogs said House Reed were daft to build a castle in the swamp, but they built it all the same just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So, House Reed built a second one, that sank into the swamp, so they built a third one, which burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up, and that’s where they lived, in the strongest castle in the Neck.
The Reeds and fellow swamp dwellers have been loyal to Winterfell since swearing aths to the King in the North thousands of years ago. Upon the announcement of Robert's Rebellion, the bannermen of House Reed fought alongside fellow Northmen as they took on House Targaryen.
Howland Reed personally helped Eddard Stark during a mission to rescue his sister, Lyanna from the Tower of Joy. He and Eddard were the only survivors, having battled Kingsguard to control the Tower and Howland is the only one currently alive that can accurately depict what happened that day.
