The city of Asshai is located on the far south-east coast of Essos and is close to the mysterious region known as the Shadow Lands. Here many magical and intriguing items have surfaced, such as Daenarys' Dragon eggs. Asshai itself is home to magic knowledge and practices, it also holds an ancient book in which the prophecy of Azor Ahai originates.
This prophecy has deep ties to those who follow the Lord of Light, such as Melissandre who originates from Asshai. The book lays claim to a hero who will be reborn and save the world, Azor Ahai come again.
Originally this hero wielded a sword named Lightbringer. This was no ordinary weapon, as Azor Ahai was chosen to fight the evil he needed to forge a sword like no other. This was not easy for our hero, he began by spending thirty days and nights creating the first version of Lightbringer, but it shattered when he brought it to temper in water. Determined, he spent a further fifty days and nights to create a better version. To ensure that this sword would be the best he caught a lion and drove the blade into its heart, but once again the blade shattered. With two failed attempts at forging this weapon Azor Ahai felt disappointed, but he gave it one more try. This time it took one-hundred days and one-hundred nights to complete the process. To finish the blade he called upon his wife Nissa Nissa and thrust the sword into her chest, combining it with her soul, thus creating Lightbringer.
According to the book's prophecy the champion Azor Ahai will be reborn as a gift from the Lord of Light. The fate of mankind rests upon this man's shoulders as the long summer will finish and the evil rises he must meet his destiny. Should Azor Ahai fail, mankind will perish along with him.
