Magic was once a large part of the world in Game of Thrones, with Whitewalkers, Children of the Forest, dragons and many other magic users, it was once a force that determined dominance.
But slowly magic began to take a back seat, falling into superstition, tales and history. Now most of Westeros' population believe magic to have disappeared completely and modern users are branded as conjurers or fake. Now, as the events of the series take place, this mysterious power is slowly creeping back, along with dragons, and many believe that the two are linked.
Manipulating the elements, specifically fire, is a common practice for those who follow the lord of light. They summon fire onto their blades to intimidate and enemy or excite a crowd. These same followers have also claimed the ability to raise the dead via their god, with side affects such as memory loss or personality changes.
The sight is a linked with the old gods, it is the ability to see events that have yet to happen, are happening or have happened a long time ago.
A skinchanger or a worg, can enter the mind of animals and some cases humans. This rare ability seems to favour those with blood of the first men.
The practice of Necromancy is also a from of magic, using various techniques, people can be brought back to life but in a zombie like state.
There are also a types of magic who use vessels such as blood to fuel their power, such as the man who used Varys to gain a vision and the Lady Melissandre.
As the presence of magic grows, especially in Westeros, the skeptical are becoming fewer and wielders of magic are coming out of the shadows.
