Heart Breathing by Helen Upton
Connecting with Yourself and the World through Heart Breathing
My name is Helen I am a HCPC registered psychologist. I work in the community with children, young people and their families, I also work at a university where I teach people to do my job. I am also a yoga and mindfulness practitioner. Yoga and mindfulness support my well-being as they help me to tune into myself and what I need, this helps me keep well so that I can connect and support others.
We are living through a time of great uncertainty, we have all had to make significant changes to our routine, including changing the way we connect with daily life and to each other. We will all experience a wide range of feelings, some helpful other less helpful, we may feel unsettled, worried, anxious, stressed, there will also be times when we have a sense of determination and achievement, this is normal at times of great change and uncertainty.
Fear and courage are closely linked. When we feel stressed or overwhelmed by things, it can help to create a pause, a time when we give ourselves permission to be in the moment, so that we can attend to and befriend ourselves and have the space to make choices about how we want to respond to whatever feelings, sensations, thoughts are arising for us at that time. A way to create this pause is to sit and connect with the ever present act of breathing and the beating of our heart, to make a time when we slow down and bring our attention to what matters most and what we need in that moment.
This audio offers a guided opportunity to pause, a chance to connect to your breath and to your heart and to open to your experience in the moment. You will be invited to connect to something that is on your mind or heart and to consider what you need. You will also be invited to connect to the world by making a heart felt offering to our world community.
This audio involves visualising the breath moving in the body, this can be a little strange at first if you have not done it before. If at any time you feel uncomfortable, please take a moment to breathe normally and focus on something else. The most important thing is that you feel safe and support your well-being, moment to moment you know yourself best, do what is right for you.
I hope you find this guided heart breath helpful .
Go well today and everyday
Helen
