Cyclone Hidaya has been on a strengthening trend today, and arguments could even be made that it is rapidly intensifying this evening as it moves very slowly westwards, north of the Comoros islands. The storm is expected to peak tomorrow and then start weakening as it draws nearer to the coast of Tanzania. Strong wind warnings are in effect for pretty much the entire Tanzania coastline, with 300mm of rainfall possible near the landfall area, which at the moment appears to be somewhere near Mafia island.
The storm is expected to swing northwards to some extent, and will implicate Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar where storm force winds are possible, along with torrential rainfall.
Hidaya is the 16th storm to form around the world this year so far.
