Romanian Wolfram, for two guitars -- composed using Wolfram Tones
Composed from an original seed generated by Wolfram Tones (online in 2005), using the Romanian Bacovia scale, I changed notes in the original seed and did 50 continuations using Quad Music Transformer to build the piece.
Wolfram Tones went online in 2005. It generates seeds (short pieces) from math/algorithms, and after pressing an instrument or style to generate the phrase, there are lots of ways of altering it with the parameters below on the page, including putting it in over 50 different scales. You can save your files in MIDI.
For this piece, I used the Romanian Bacovia scale, one of many to choose from. You can also apply different math formulas and various other variations. But the first step is to just generate something you can see using for music. Before this seed, I've probably generated 500 seeds using Wolfram, and one seed was okay and I tried to build a piece with it, but never finished it. A lot of the seeds Wolfram generates sound abstract.
This seed, however, struck me as special immediately. The syncopation, with melody on-beat and then off-beat in the first phrases, and combined with the free guitar VST (AGML2), which has never sounded right with any other piece I've tried it on, it all made this good. This guitar VST has finger noises, sliding noises, and a more steely sound that most of the classical guitar VSTs.
