Transcript:
Illyrio Mopatis was a sellsword from Bravos, in his youth he was described as muscular and very handsome.
In Pentos he met Varys and formed a friendship that resulted in the two poor young men working together and becoming very rich. With Illyrio's powerful status and Varys' aid, he married the maiden daughter of a cousin to the Prince of Pentos. Some time after their marriage, his wife passed away and he then married a prostitute from Lys named Serra. The Prince of Pentos was displeased with this arrangement and he was banned from the palace ever since.
Illyrio was happily married until Serra contracted the plague from a Braavosi trade-ship that anchored in Pentos. The plague was spread by rats which manage to kill 2000 people in the area. As a reminder, Illyrio keeps her hands, as well as wearing a picture of her within a locket around his neck.
After Robert's Rebellion Daenaerys and Viserys found refuge in his home for a year and a half before they departed with Khal Drogo. He had considered killing Viserys and keeping Daenarys for himself but changed his mind, deciding that she was too timid and frightened to keep him happy. As payment for protecting the two Targaryen children, Visenya promised to give Illyrio the title of Master of Coin when he claims the throne.
