This z-stack of a chicken embryo was made with our adapted mesoSPIM lightsheet setup with integrated Teledyne Photometrics Prime BSI Express.
Unstained chicken embryo E8 (age: 8 days; 1x, 0.15 NA, FOV 10 x 10 mm). Overlay of autofluorescence 488 nm (blue); z-stack: step size 5 µm over 9.8 mm in depth; clearing: BABB.
The sample was kindly provided by Martina Schaettin (Stöckli Lab, Universität Zürich).
The z-stack shows very nicely the embryonic body structure: starting with the feet, then the interior organs building up and at the end the spine. The eyes with pupil and retina are also clearly recognizable - the latter casts a shadow on the tissue behind it due to its melanin.
