This is the most popular piece from Gerard Hengeveld's collection of ten pieces in popular styles called 'Melodie en Rhythme'. It was published in Holland in 1961 at a time when teaching pieces in jazz or pop genres were very thin on the ground. I have played it here at a speed close to the composer's metronome marking of crochet = 80 (actually even slower than my tempo). Many would prefer it faster. It is not a conventional twelve bar blues in form but divides into three eight bar phrases (ABA).
Interestingly this is one of those ABRSM pieces which have appeared in different exam grade lists at different times. In 1978 (!) it was listed as a grade 5 piece but in 2012 it was set for grade 4. I would put it mid way between: a bit short and a little too easy for grade 5 perhaps.
