Gabriel Grovlez's collection 'Almanach aux Images' is published in the UK by Stainer and Bell and consists of eight pieces, of which this is the seventh. The title means 'Swing song' (a garden swing, that is) and it is marked to be played in the style of a Viennese waltz. The music shows the influence of Ravel in the use of compelx chromatic harmony (compare Ravel's 'Valses Nobles et Sentimentales' published around the same time).
I admire this collection very much and would have recorded more of the pieces but for the fact that there are already many fine versions available. I would rate this as a difficult grade 7 choice (in fact it appeared on the grade 7 syllabus in 2005).
