Dave Brubeck: 'Bluette' (slow waltz) for piano

'Bluette' comes from the collection called 'Nocturnes' (Alfred, 1997) and this is marked crochet = 100, which is too fast for my taste. I have chosen to play swung quavers (not specified). To hear a different version, look up John Salmon's recording.

The piece feels like an arrangement to play, as the second half involves a lot of spread chords and leaps. Incidentally the title means 'spark' in French, but this doesn't seem like the association Brubeck had in mind. Perhaps he was thinking rather of the blues element, which is quite prominent.
