This is Maconchy's contribution to book 4 of 'Five by Ten', the series of five books containing music by ten different composers and published in 1952. As with her other pieces in this extended collection, one can only admire the technical excellence of the composition, which is of a conservative bent: there are no eccentricities of melody, harmony or form. A good intermediate level study which captures the jigging motion of the bear's dance perfectly.
