Hurricane Norma, Tammy and Sanba - Tropical Weather Bulletin Oct 19, 2023
Hurricane Norma is looking very impressive this evening, and appears to be rapidly intensifying. The storm is now a burgeoning Category 1 hurricane, and is set to reach major hurricane status by the weekend. Norma is expected to impact the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula at the end of the weekend into early next week with hurricane conditions possible.
In the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Tammy is gathering pace as it heads towards the Lesser Antilles, and Tropical Storm Watches are now in effect for Barbados, Dominica, Martinique and Guadeloupe. Tammy is expected to strengthen and be a strong tropical storm as it swings near or through the islands, and become a hurricane as it pulls out to sea, curving north.
Tropical Storm Sanba remains potent in the Gulf of Tonkin, rounding the western coast of Hainan China. Yellow typhoon warnings are in effect for some vulnerable areas, and heavy rainfall could total 24 inches (600mm) in parts of China, and 14 inches (350mm) in some coastal areas of Vietnam.
In the Arabian Sea, we are expecting another powerful cyclone to form and reach Oman next week.
In the South Pacific, an area of interest is looking very likely to reach cyclone status and become a powerful storm as it reaches Vanuatu next week.
