Q & A: Syndicated Content Across Brand Properties
Today's question is about content syndication among the brand properties. In this case, a car dealership with six locations, and six distinct websites, each with a blog. Their question, "Is it okay to repost the same blog article on the six different sites?" Google deals with word-word-word copied or syndicated content in an interesting way. It actually doesn't matter which site published a piece of content "first". Though that's what most people believe. Google looks for the most authoritative site (read: strangest backlink profile) and usually sees that page as the one most deserving of ranking at the top. Syndicating the same blog post across six websites in your network probably isn't the best idea, as Google will most likely choose the original website to rank articles from (presuming it has the most/best links from other websites).
