Cyclone Tej remains fearsome as it winds closer to the coast of the Arabian peninsula, and its gradual eastern trend has led it towards making landfall in eastern Yemen rather than in Oman as first thought. The storm could make landfall in as little as 12 hours, with hurricane force winds expected to batter the coast by tonight. The storm is expected to slow down as it makes landfall, causing further misery in the area and prolonged spells of torrential rain, especially on the storm's northern side.
Cyclone Tej is expected to dump up to 30 inches (750mm) of rain in parts of the border region between Oman and Yemen, with Salalah expecting 6 inches (150mm) and Al Ghaydah near 20 inches (500mm). Severe flooding and landslides are expected.
