Is This Scenario a Link Scheme?
A question from Reddit about local businesses trading links. Will it improve the SEO of all the businesses involved? Or is it a link scheme that can draw an algorithmic or manual penalty?
The best idea may be to have businesses that are categorically related link to each other, if they want to promote each others services. Having two vastly disparate businesses doing a link exchange doesn't make a lot of sense.
For what it's worth, I wouldn't rely strictly on link exchanges for SEO. You'll want to get a lot more variety in your link profile to see maximum benefit from link building.
