New Site Not Ranking? Make Sure It's Indexed

Today's question, "Our site has articles on a topic that few websites are covering, yet we rank nowhere in Google. Why aren't we ranking for low-competition keywords?" A few things to look for first. Is your site indexed in Google? Do a "site:" search and see what pages Google has crawled and indexed. If there are none or very few, set up a Search Console account and add some XML sitemaps. If you do have pages indexed, the issue may be that the content isn't the right match, or that there are no links to your content. Google may see the site as low authority because there are hardly any websites hyperlinking to yours. The other thing could be poor design or user experience, but it is more likely mismatched content or lack of links if the site is actually indexed.
