Tony Myles (The Poets) Interview (3/31/24)
Born on the Isle of Man, Tony Myles is a musician and songwriter who was the rhythm guitarist in the 1960’s beat/psych/pop band The Poets. The band formed in Glasgow in the early 60’s. The original lineup was George Gallacher (vocals), John Dawson (bass), Alan Weir (drums), Hume Paton (lead & 12 string guitar) and Tony on rhythm guitar. Today Tony is the only surviving member. In 1964 The Poets made the British Charts with the song “Now We’re Thru”. Though no album was released during the band’s existence, several singles did see the light of day. A CD compilation entitled Wooden Spoon: The Singles Anthology 1964 – 1967 was issued on Grapefruit Records in 2011. Mr. Myles currently resides in Spain and has worked in broadcasting as a radio presenter and hosts a weekly radio show. My guest is also an avid bridge player and continues writing music in his home studio.
