Brief flyovers of Buffalo's downtown skyline and city hall in December of 2023. Many of the city's buildings are seen accented in green and red lights for Christmas. Buffalo City Hall (1931), arguably the city's most prominent structure, is a massive Art Deco building with 32 floors that top out at 398-feet.
With 1.2 million people Buffalo is New York State's second largest metropolitan region. The city sits at the easternmost shore of Lake Erie where the lake flows into the Niagara River. Only 17 miles away is the point at which the Niagara River carries Lake Erie's outflow over the Niagara Falls and into Lake Ontario approximately 15-miles down river. Buffalo is closer to Cleveland, Toronto and Detroit than it is to New York City (a six-hour drive).
