Meteor Crater (formally Barringer Crater) is an impact crater in northern Arizona's Coconino County located between the cities of Flagstaff and Winslow.
Created 50,000 years ago when a 160ft-wide nickel-iron meteorite struck Earth at a speed estimated between 30,000 and 45,000 miles-per-hour with an impact energy of 10 megatons. The resulting crater is 540ft-deep and 3900ft-across.
The site is visited by a quarter of a million people a year.
