Atop Buzzard's Roost along the Illinois River Trail, Oregon - After the Ants
Join me after the ants have gone underground for winter as I find my way to the top of Buzzard's Roost along the Illinois River Trail in southwestern Oregon in December 2022.
A spate of clear skies offered a chance to get into the mountains in winter sans snow, and I took advantage to finally check out the west end of the Illinois River Trail. On my second trail run up the hill I decided to stop off and check out Buzzard's Roost, a rock outcrop just under 1,000 feet in elevation.
Precipitous dropoffs made me a bit nervous but facing my fear led me to the summit and a wonderful 360-degree view of the trail, the mountains, and down into the river canyon.
And despite the wonderfully warm sunny weather that day, I found not one single ant.
