Join me after the ants have gone underground for winter as I take my first ever up-close look at the so-called "white cliffs" of Cape Blanco, on the southern Oregon coast in December 2022.
I'd wanted to see this furthest cliff for a while, and its namesake white color was mostly absent. I think it's more yellow or tan and so "Blanco," being inaccurate, ought to be changed to "Amarillo" in my opinion. And with the setting sun, these cliffs become only more yellow, so "Cape Amarillo" is a more accurate description of their appearance and of course certainly sounds more romantic!
If you go, aim for low tide or minus to make getting around the rock point easier, and of course don't pass up a chance to pass through the arches or peer into the caves. It's a playground of beachgoing fun, and of course, you can always go tidepooling.
Along with great scenery, perfect weather, and a nice time beach running, I saw not one single ant.
